ABOUT US
The Past, Present & Future of Allports Fish & Chips.
Aged just 21, John Allport opened his first fish and chip shop in Snowdon Street, Porthmadog, having grown up working on fish and chip vans.
In July 2000, he opened his second shop, a 35-seater restaurant with takeaway on Y Maes in Pwllheli. A mere 18 months later, that same shop became the first Welsh winner of the UK Fish & Chip Shop of the Year in the 14-year history of the prestigious industry award.
Following the success of the shops in Porthmadog and Pwllheli, John acquired the shop in Llanberis in 2006 and more recently, in 2024, he opened his fourth shop on the High Street in Criccieth.
John has always been fortunate to have the support of a strong team of loyal and hard-working staff, many of whom have been with him for many years. In 2022, John’s wife Rhonwen joined the team and more recently two of John’s sons, Thomas and Jack, have joined the business after successful careers in the army. With John’s many years of experience and business acumen and Thomas and Jack’s fresh and innovative ideas and their own skills, the family is hoping to attain even higher standards of excellence across its four shops and take the business to a new level, possibly expanding into more towns in North Wales.
